Growing up I used to see profiles of Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Frederick Douglas in school. To my surprise, I noticed the same profiles at my now 13-year old daughter’s school. I wondered is there a more engaging way to inspire and teach our children about famous African-Americans? While awareness of these legends is still important, are there more people doing things everyday that people should know about? Born out of this idea came She’s All That.
As a lover of arts and crafts and a firm believer in the power of tactical learning, I set about combining these two things with our history. Since our first event held in 2017, we have been educating and inspiring today’s young girls that they can achieve more.
As a mother of a 13-year old daughter, I recognize the importance of a positive self-image. I truly believe in the mantra if they can see it, they can achieve it. All things start with a seed, and She’s All That is intended to plant the initial seed of possibility in today’s young girls. For them to see girls and women that look like them succeeding in life is a very powerful thing. That is our mission, that is our purpose – empowering tomorrow’s young leaders by planting the seeds today.
